How to Automate Deburring and Finishing with NamPower Industrial Brushes

Manual deburring and finishing operations can be time-consuming, labor-intensive, and expensive. Handheld finishing and deburring tools are great for hobbyists, but manufacturers need industrial brushes for high-volume production of auto parts and aerospace components. Appliance manufacturers and industries that perform chamfering, cross-hole deburring, and fine blanketing operations also need professional-grade brushing technology for manual and automated finishing machinery.

Burr Removal and Surface Finishing
Recently, Brush Research Manufacturing (BRM) released a video that shows manufacturers how to automate deburring and finishing operations with NamPower™ abrasive disc brushes. BRM demonstrates how NamPower™ industrial brushes provide maximum burr removal rates and an ideal surface finish at the same time, saving manufacturers time and money. This four-minute video also explains how NamPower™ technology uses a flow-through coolant system for optimal performance.

Industrial Brushes and Machine Automation
NamPower™ disc brushes are easily integrated into automated machinery, CNC machinery centers, transfer lines, and robotic cells. Using a combination of ceramic and silicon carbide filaments, these power brushes work like flexible files, conforming to part contours while wiping and filing across part edges and surfaces. For less vibration and more repeatability, NamPower™ abrasive disc brushes also feature a molded, fiber-reinforced thermoplastic base.

Cutting Action and Brush Tool Life
As BRM’s how-to video explains, NamPower™ disc brushes are designed for use with a new flow-through coolant holder.  Each NamPower™ tool holder is heat-treated and precision-ground with a PVD coating for improved corrosion resistance and long life. These professional-grade arbors allow coolant to flow from the brush center instead of supplying lubricant only from the outside. For manufacturers, the result is improved cutting action and longer tool life.

NamPower™ Disc Brush Styles
BRM offers two types of NamPower™ abrasive disc brushes: Dot Style and Turbine Style. Both are ideal for manufacturing applications with short cycle times. Dot Style NamPower™ disc brushes are designed for general-purpose deburring and surface finishing applications. Economical and flexible, they allow entry into small holes and spaces. Turbine Style NamPower™ disc brushes contain filaments with a high-density fill, and are recommended for medium and heavy-duty deburring applications.

Product Specifications and Industrial Brush Performance
All NamPower abrasive brushes feature a linear construction in which new grains constantly come into contact with the work surface and wear off, exposing fresh cutting particles. NamPower™ abrasive disc brushes are available in three diameters (100-mm, 125-mm, and 150-mm), two trim lengths (18-mm and 38-mm), and four choices of grit (80, 120, 180, and 320).  Maximum safe free speeds (MSFS) vary with brush diameter and include 1800 (150-mm), 2000 (125-mm) and 2200 (100-mm).
