Flex-Hone® Adaptors and Flex-Hone® Extensions for Longer Bores

Rack N Roll is a builder of custom bicycles in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Like Benjamin Franklin before him, he’s also a mechanic and an inventor.  Franklin’s discoveries, improvements, and inventions may be more prolific, but the Founding Father would probably be proud of this modern-day tinkerer. Back in 1786, Ben Franklin invented a device called the Long Arm for retrieving books from high shelves. Almost 225 years later, Rack N Roll designed an extension so that bike builders can use flexible hones to deburr seat-posts that are over a foot long. 

Cylinder Hone Extensions
Brush Research Manufacturing (BRM) admires “Yankee ingenuity,” too, but our Los Angeles, California company already provides extensions and other accessories for our Flex-Hone® tool. Built with a stiff metal stem, flexible nylon filaments, and abrasive globules that some users call “dingleberries”, BRM’s patented brush tool mounts in a handheld electric drill and is a favorite of bike builders, gunsmiths, and automotive hobbyists alike. For surface finishing applications with longer-bore requirements, BRM offers pipe nipple adaptors and pipe extensions for our cylinder honing tool.     

Pipe Nipple Adaptors
Pipe nipple adaptors are crimped to the stem of the brush tool and available in standard National Pipe Thread (NPT) tapers. Though sold separately, these Flex-Hone® adaptors are intended to be factory-attached when the ball hone (as our flexible hone is sometimes called) is ordered. When ordering pipe nipple adaptors, please note that the catalog number indicates pipe size. For example, 18NPT adaptors have a pipe size of 1/8” NPT. Pipe Extensions
Pipe extensions are designed to meet longer-bore requirements and are built for male-threaded pipe nipple adapters, which are sold separately. BRM’s Flex-Hone® extensions are either 18” or 36” long and come in four types: 18 x 18, 18 x 36, 14 x 18, and 14 x 36. When ordering, please note that the catalog number indicates first the NPT taper and then the length. For example, the 18 x 18 extension has an NPT thread of 1/8” and a length of 18”.
