IMTS TV Features Brush Research Manufacturing (BRM)

Making a mark at the International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) isn’t easy. With more than 1,900 exhibitors and 100,000 visitors, IMTS 2012 spanned 10 pavilions and some 1.2 million net square feet. For a select group of exhibitors, however, the tradeshow’s video channel (IMTS TV) provided a powerful, informative way to connect with the vast IMTS audience. Whether from their hotel rooms, at IMTS TV kiosks, or via the Internet, tradeshow attendees could watch and learn from industry leaders.

Must-See TV for Industry
For Mike Miller, Vice President of Global Sales for Brush Research Manufacturing (BRM), an in-depth interview with IMTS TV’s Penny Brown was the perfect way to spread the word about the Flex-Hone® tools, NamPower™ abrasive disc finishing tools, and miniature brushes. On Tuesday, September 11, 2012, Miller and BRM were featured on IMTS TV Live Industry I, a 40-minute video event that’s now available on-line. Mike’s interview begins at about the 13:30 mark and last approximately 7 minutes.

The Flex-Hone® Tool
“The trend in manufacturing today,” Miller told IMTS TV, “is to do more on the machine tool and less on the hand bench.” BRM’s Flex-Hone®, a flexible abrasive cylinder hone that’s used in surface finishing and cross-hole deburring, provides manufacturers with increased operational efficiency. Made with abrasive globules laminated onto the ends of nylon filaments, the Flex-Hone® eliminates the need for secondary finishing operations. As Miller explained, BRM’s signature surface finishing tool comes in a wide variety of sizes and can be used in virtually any rotating spindle.

NamPower™ Abrasive Disc Finishing Tools
NamPower™ abrasive disc brushes also provide high-quality solutions for surface finishing. Designed with a flow-through cooling system and a thermoplastic injection-molded base, NamPower™ tools are ideal for flat surface finishing. Because the coolant is “at the center of the brush,” Mike Miller explains, NamPower™ provides faster cut rates and faster machine cycles. Unlike disc brushes with cast bases, NamPower™ tools provide a “rigid, firm grip with good balance for the tool”. Made with a combination of abrasives, BRM’s versatile commercial brushes vary in terms of aggressiveness and flexibility and are available in different trim-outs.

Miniature Brushes
Finally, Miller told IMTS TV about BRM’s extensive line of miniature brushes for applications such as medical devices, fuel injectors, and “anything with small holes that require deburring”. Although some of these mini brushes use abrasive nylon filaments, others use materials such as brass or stainless steel. Miniature industrial brushes with diamond-filled abrasive nylon filaments are also available. Typically, bench technicians use pin vices for what Miller calls “good, secure holding”, and to reduce the fatigue that’s associated with hand deburring.
